Firstly, happy birthday BeWILDerwood! I can’t believe it’s been five years since it opened. I went there with family in its second year and loved every minute of it. Yes it’s for kids but adults are allowed to accompany their children on most of the structures. I got to climb, go down slides, swing on things and jump around obstacle courses.
BeWILDerwood has won Bronze in the Large Visitor Attraction of the Year Category of the prestigious VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2012. With an ethos firmly based on encouraging imaginative outdoor play, BeWILDerwood, celebrates its second appearance as finalist in a record-breaking year with 392 applications for the awards.
As a finalist, BeWILDerwood attended a glittering Awards Ceremony, on 22 May 2012 at Athena, an art deco gem located in the heart of Leicester’s cultural quarter. The BeWILDerwood Twiggle Team was awarded the Bronze Award – a great achievement recognising Excellence in Tourism in England.
Commenting on the Award James Berresford, VisitEngland’s Chief Executive says: “In a year when we received a record of 392 high quality applications winning a Bronze Award is a considerable achievement. BeWILDerwood is now ranked in the top 3 businesses in their category for excellence, achieving one of the highest accolades VisitEngland can bestow. I warmly congratulate them”.
Created by Tom Blofeld, Hoveton House estate owner and children’s author of the BeWILDerwood series of books, the BeWILDerwood concept, put quite simply, is one of child’s play. The vision: to enhance an already striking natural playground and encourage children and their families to enjoy traditional, imaginative and healthy outdoor play.
