Getting to visit Congham Hall earlier on Monday was exactly what I needed to relax and unwind ahead of a hectic week of deadlines, cats and travelling (more on that soon). Congham Hall kindly invited myself and a guest to a three course meal, with wine in their beautiful restaurant.

We had a tour of the hotel, it’s truly beautiful. Set in amazing grounds with its own spa, library, orchard and herb garden. It’s just 6 miles outside of Kings Lynn in the village of Grimston.

IMG_8993We settled down to a glass of wine and to pour over the menu for a while. Out on the terrace we had some great views of the orchard and surrounding fields. It didn’t take me long to choose what I wanted to eat (despite the fact that I can be quite fussy).

IMG_8988Another glass of wine later and we were being called through to our table. We were offered bread and water for the table and our starters arrived very shortly after.

IMG_8996I had the tomato and mozzarella salad. It was one of the specials and perfect for a hot summer’s evening.

IMG_8997Rosie, my companion had the feta and artichoke salad.

IMG_8998For my main course I had a rare breed pork taster dish which featured all sorts of beautiful cuts of pork along with sweet potato puree, vegetables and edible flowers. The pork belly was the star of the show, it was juicy and just melted in my mouth. I wish there had been more of it! The edible flowers were a nice touch, they just gave a little summery edge to the dish.

IMG_8999Rosie had the chicken breast with risotto. It looked delicious but I was so enamoured with my own dish I didn’t even think about asking for a bite.

IMG_9002We also ordered a couple of sides, a Parmesan salad and the honeyed parsnips. Both were fantastic. We did like the look of the triple cooked chips but when we went to order them we were told the potatoes weren’t good enough at the moment so they were only able to cook the chips twice.

IMG_9006For dessert I had the banoffee brownie. It was four very rich little brownies topped with banoffee ice cream. While it was delicious, I would’ve liked a little less chocolate and a bit more banana.

IMG_9003For somewhere so beautiful, with such great food, the prices are quite reasonable. For a starter you’re looking at around £7 and main courses range from around £12 to £25. Desserts are about £6 each.

This would be the perfect spot for a spa break or to visit after a day out in Kings Lynn.
