Last week Ali and I headed to the Yaxham Waters to spend a night into one of the Norfolk Glamping yurts. The whole campsite is really lovely with a play area, café, a modern toilet/shower block and a lovely little farm shop too. The genuine Mongolian yurts were absolutely stunning too and this is where we got to stay for one glorious night.IMG_1576 IMG_1579Outside our yurt we had a seating area, a fire pit, BBQ, hammock and swing chair. Not to mention all the kids toys and game that were tucked away in a shed in one corner. IMG_1602Inside was full of natural light (there’s a hole in the top of the yurt that lets in glorious sunshine but can be covered up if the weather turns) and plenty of colour and texture. In that chest at the end of the bed were board games too. IMG_1575You get your own little kitchen which includes a gas stove, kettle, tea, coffee, sugar, cutlery, plates and bowls. IMG_1573We had no need for it but there’s also a wood burner and everything you need to light it and put it out. Because the yurt is so wonderfully insulated, I can image this would make it lovely and warm. This makes glamping a very good alternative to camping in the winter. IMG_1571

We invited Ali’s family over for a BBQ.

The sun set, Ali and I built a fire then we played a mammoth game of trivial pursuit.

IMG_1648 The solar lights came on once it was dark and we lit the candles in the lanterns. It was beautiful!

If you want to ‘rough’ it but don’t want to camp, this is the route you should choose. This part of Norfolk is beautiful too so a cosy yurt would make a wonderful hub for a walking holiday.
