Just like most girls (and a lot of boys) I watched The Little Mermaid as a child — and more recently with my own daughter — and dreamed of living under the sea. It’s a magical place with animals shaped like stars, fish shaped like horses, evil octopus sea-witches…

In reality the closest we’re going to get to living under the sea is visiting the Sea Life Centre. I visited the Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre with my family not too long ago and I have to say, I was impressed. As someone who has a fish tank at home (a mere 200L compared to their millionss of litres) I was astounded at the cleanliness of their tanks and water – all crystal clear. There are animals you couldn’t even imagine existing (upside-down jellyfish?!), there’s a Finding Nemo tank and you can even stroke a starfish. The best bit has to be the million-litre tank which you actually walk underneath. With over 1000 creatures in 60 displays, no child or adult could be bored here.

We walked through three times before the kids decided they’d seen enough. A quick cuppa in the café whilst the kids made use of the soft play area was a perfect way to end the outing.

The Sea Life Centre is another fantastic, educational day out for the whole family. We’re lucky enough to have two in Norfolk – the one I went to in Great Yarmouth and another in Hunstanton. Well worth a visit.
