Dereham Education and Soccer Academy (DESA) have scored cash from The Dereham branch of The Nottingham that will help them with their work.

They have netted £150, which will go towards the cost of a trip to Las Vegas. Academy graduates are embarking on this trip to get valuable experience and contacts that could ultimately lead to further education scholarships in the States.

The Nottingham has a commitment to supporting projects in the communities where it has branches, particularly those working under themes of employability, sporting talent and community wellbeing, financial education and homelessness.

Dereham branch Customer Services Assistant Michelle Watson, who can be seen presenting a cheque to representatives of Dereham Education and Soccer Academy, said: “We are very proud to support the academy and it was a pleasure to go to Dereham Town Football Club to present the cheque.

“Their aim is to help people achieve their football dream but they are responsible enough to accept that not everyone can make it in the game, so young people on their programme are educated as well, to ensure they have a ‘plan b’ in terms of employment prospects.”

Tom Parke from DESA added: “We are extremely grateful that The Nottingham has kindly donated money towards our 2019 tour to USA, which will provide our learners with an unforgettable experience.”

Dereham Education and Soccer Academy is a football education programme for 16-19 year-olds. It is based at Dereham Town Football Club and is run in partnership with Dereham Sixth Form College.
